OUR STORY

THE FUTURE OF INNOVATION QUALITY

WELCOME TO STAR BOARD

How to continue the journey and connection to the Ocean through a lifetime?

After 15 years of windsurfing, abandoning school and promising to not get into any board-related business, this was a large question for a kid from Arendal, Norway, spending time on a Polynesian Island back in the 90s. Now, looking into the sky, it could seem like we all are stardust navigating our ways through generations of lifetime opportunities. Perhaps the stars somehow influence us, our links to ancestors and the friends that we share the planet with?

Starboard is just one of those journeys through space and time.

Each one of us is somehow shaping our little brand stimulating the fabulous synergy between the ancient Tiki, the fun-loving god-king of water and waves, and our Viking ancestors that had their Styriboard (steering board) on the right side of their ships. Our board’s shapes and technologies come from the communication we have with each other and the ocean.

Now we have fostered a whole bunch of friends around the world who love to play in the ocean and protect it, we want to help reinforce this mass movement of connecting people to nature so we all can better understand how to protect our planet.

We have just won 11 out of the 12 last Constructors’ titles. As an organization it’s however no longer good enough to be the best in the world, we really need to start becoming the best for the world.

Are we the world’s first company to calculate our plastic footprint and set up a plastic offset program? Are we the first company to aim at becoming Carbon Past Positive, balancing not only our current carbon footprint but our entire 29 years of business? Can we together play an important role in changing the tide of pollution and help the world vote for the ocean?

Thanks to all our inspiring partners and riders for guiding us towards a better future, let’s see how we can be most useful over the next 25 years.

OUR ACTION

STARBOARD makes a lot of choices impacting the environment. We are banning virgin plastics where possible and find ways to use recycled and bio materials. We have calculated our plastic footprint and set up a Plastic Offset Program. We calculate our company’s CO2 emission, our factories production and even all our team riders travelling. We offset by planting mangroves with Worldview International Foundation to be net positive, going carbon past positive and aim at becoming 10x net positive. And yes we certainly also reduce our foot print with our HQ’s solar installations. Our ultimate goal? Turning our negative impact to become positive, and inspire everyone to become more useful passengers on the spaceship Planet Earth. For more info: www.blue.star-board.com

B-CERTIFIED

In 2018 we became a certified B-Corp company as we met the rigorous standards set out by B-Corp. These strict standards allow us to ensure we are creating a positive impact for our employees, the community around us and of course, the environment. Overall, allowing us to use business as a force for good.

B-Corp companies are something you can be searching for when you are out and about buying your own items, whether its a cup of coffee, a new t-shirt or a mortgage, take a look for the B-Corp standard stamp. Having the B-Corp standard as part of your business is like having a Fairtrade stamp on food and clothing items. When you purchase a product from a B-Corp or Fairtrade company, you are choosing to support the community of business who care about their environmental and social standards. Resulting in a positive impact on the industry, driving positive change and positive impacts to not only people’s lives but also the environment.

10X CLIMATE POSITIVE

For every board Starboard plants 3 mangrove trees with Worldview International Foundation. Each tree absorbs 673kg of CO2 during its first 25 years.

50% of absorption goes towards offsetting this board & 50% is secured as carbon credits to fund livelihood projects in Myanmar. The average emission from a Starboard board is 100 kg CO2. By planting 3 trees per board we offset this 10 x over.

PLASTIC OFFSET PROGRAM

1.4 kg of trash is collected per board by Starboard POP crews at beaches in Thailand & Myanmar. Globally, an individual is responsible for 1.4 kg of plastic reaching the ocean every year. Starboard balances this amount for our customers.

WHY STARBOARD

ALL STARBOARD INFLATABLE PADDLE BOARDS FEATURE WELDED RAIL TECHNOLOGY

The welded rail uses a new & advanced heat-welding process whereby the top and bottom layers of the board are mechanically bonded. That means there is no glue used to join the top and bottom along the rails (where leakage can occur) therefore these joins are now bonded for life – making our boards the most durable on the market!

YOU RIDE WHAT THE WORLD CHAMPIONS RIDE

At Starboard, our products are crafted by passionate paddlers. Our dedicated R&D team works closely with our team of world champions to develop top-notch equipment. With countless hours spent testing on the water and building prototypes in our in-house workshop, our Starboard team riders compete and emerge victorious using production boards made from our very own molds. These boards are identical to the ones available for our valued customers. See Starboard Dream Team >
